The members and friends of the Columbia Terrier Association of Maryland fondly remember Lou Swafford. Lou represented the Airedale Terrier Club of Metropolitan Washington at the old Columbia Association of Terrier Clubs in the 1980s, and later became a member of the Board of Directors of that organization. In 1993, he became a founding board member of the Columbia Terrier Association of Maryland. In July 2007, Lou was honored by being named Director Emeritus. Lou was a very active contributor to CTAM and arranged for its summer terrier match site for many years.
Lou and his wife Vee owned a number of Airedales who completed their championships. Lou did much of the showing and was proud of their accomplishments. Lou also was especially proud of one of his champions, Bo, who was a Pets on Wheels volunteer and visited nursing homes with Lou on a regular basis. For nearly 20 years, Lou and Vee ran the local Airedale Rescue Program and many rescued Airedales found their permanent homes in the Swafford household.
Lou was an outstanding Terrier Man and a fine friend. He was always a gentleman. Our lives have been enriched by his friendship, and our loss is great. We will truly miss him.
In Memoriam --
Luther Swafford, Jr. (Lou)
